Things You Need to Know About Body Waxing & Sugaring

  • Sugar Cookie Waxing Co is located inside of the Rosedale Medical Centre, a few steps away from the intersection of Sherbourne Street and Bloor Street East. Once you’re in the building, take the elevator or stairs to the second floor, we’re located in Unit 205 (you will see signage on the door).

    • Allow hair to grow at least a quarter inch long, roughly the length of a rice grain. This will ensure that the sugar and wax can effectively grip onto the hairs

    • Exfoliate no less than 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and allow for a more effective waxing/sugaring session

    • Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol on the day of your appointment as these can make your skin more sensitive

    • Showering (though not necessary) helps remove oils, lotions, and sweat.

    • Avoid applying moisturizers on the day of your appointment as this helps the sugar or wax adhere properly for the smoothest results

    • Optional Pain Relief: Take an ibuprofen 30 - 45 minutes before your wax if you’re worried about discomfort

    • Avoid touching the area, especially with unwashed hands. Dirty hands carry bacteria that could irritate your freshly waxed hair follicles

    • Avoid Heat. Anything that may make you sweat a lot could irritate your skin. No working out, tanning, steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, sex, etc.

    • Avoid Tight Clothing. Allow your skin to breath after getting waxed, opt for loose/breathable fabrics to prevent friction on the skin

    • Avoid Fragrant Products. No scented lotions, soaps, oils or deodorants. These may irritated your open follicles

    • Avoid Exfoliation. Do not start exfoliating right away, give your skin 2 days to recover before you start any form of exfoliation

    • In the following weeks you are going to want to exfoliate and hydrate your skin between appointments. Exfoliation should be done 2-3x per week, this will help remove dead skin and buildup on the skin. After exfoliation, it is very important that you hydrate your skin with a moisturizer as exfoliating without moisturizing can increase the chances of dry skin, which can cause new hair growth to get stuck underneath. Think of this as skincare for your Brazilian (or area that was treated), when you put on all of your serums you don’t just stop there, typically you’d finish with a moisturizer. This will keep the skin barrier healthy allowing your hair to grow through the skin.

    • Yes. Waxing while on your period is completely ok, many clients still get waxed during their cycle. We ask that you wear a tampon or menstrual cup during these appointments. It’s important to note that your skin may be a bit more sensitive due to hormonal shifts that happen during this time of the month.

    • Typically once you begin sugaring/waxing, you want to maintain your ritual every 4-6 weeks.
